The International Gay & Lesbian Football Association
(IGLFA) holds its World Championship this year at
Regents Park in London. The Championship was first
held in 1992 and has grown each year to become a
massive annual event. This is the second time it has
been held in the UK, the last time was by Stonewall
FC in 2001. |
The
Tournament @ LONDON Regents Park
The Regent's Park is the largest grass area for sports in
Central London and offers a wide variety of activities, as
well as an Open Air Theatre, the London Zoo and many cafes
and restaurants.
We have x10 11-a-side pitches and x6 7-a-side pitches in the
Regents Park. There are a further four pitches available on
the adjacent Primrose Hill that we may use if needed.
The pitches are turf and were re-laid in 2005 and are of a
high quality, supporting many local league fixtures
throughout the year. The changing facilities at the Regents
Park (known as The Hub) were built in 2006 and boast
impressive and modern facilities for team changing, separate
referees changing area, disability access as well as lockers
for hire.
The Regents Park has many public transport links and will
make the Championships one of the most accessible.
During the tournament the fields will be monitored to ensure
that the assignation of matched provides optimum rest for
each pitch, also ensuring the safety of the participants.
The Division One finals will be played at a football league
stadium. We have agreed permission with Leyton Orient FC to
use their Matchroom Stadium in East London.
The
Championship
The tournament will be split into four divisions; Men's
Division 1 & 2 (11-a-side), Women's Division 1 (11-a-side)
and Women's Division 2 (7-a-side).
Pool matches will be played Monday & Tuesday with the
knockout and consolation place matches Thursday & Friday.
Matches in all four divisions will be played in accordance
with IGLFA rules, a copy of which you can download
here.
