For those
of you who were fortunate enough to join us at Colney Heath
on May 21st, I hope that you found
the evening as amusing and enlightening as I did. As AGMs go
I thought that the `entertainment` provided was as good as
it gets. Sorry that some of you had to stand throughout and
that we might well have catered for a few more people. It’s
always difficult to judge exactly just how many referees are
going to turn up on the night. It has also been observed
that ‘noise’ emanating from the other bar has become
distracting. It may well be that we look at alternative
venues or at least some alternative options for the
committee to look into.
My thanks
to our President Barry Firmin for his efforts in arranging
with Peter Walton to be our guest speaker. Personally I
thought his presentation was excellent and He was certainly
amused (bemused) by our antics in the first half. Peter, I
thought, came across as a very self effacing gent, obviously
very good at what he does, but not in any arrogant or
offhand manner. I hope that you all found some thing in the
presentation to take home and to ’tick your own boxes’.
I would
like to think that you agreed with the splendid new ‘oscars’
that the Association have presented to the Members and I
hope that you will support the Committee's view that we
should recognise good practice wherever it occurs, thanks
especially to Mr. Hamilton for his selection of the trophies
and subsequent engraving. Congratulations then to all the
recipients and surprise, surprise, it might be your
nomination next year.
For those
of you who missed the gathering, the Carl Couzens Trophy
will be presented at the September meeting, with Carls`
parents in attendance. More on that nearer the time.
Enjoy the
summer break, don't forget your
application forms and keep
smiling.
Thanks
once again to all the members for helping to make the
Association the envy of many. To ALL the Officers who keep
us ticking over in a democratic manner and lastly, but not
least, to the man who keeps me away from the shops every
Saturday…it's been a pleasure.
