Carl Couzens Memorial Quiz Report
Administrator, 18 December 2011
The annual Carl Couzens Memorial Quiz Night was held in Stevenage earlier this month.
There was good support from referees in general, and from members of the ASSMFLMO in particular.
After ten rounds, the Spartan Specials, comprising Simon Anscombe, Andy Stevens and Mark Mellor with others, were just pipped for top spot by 2 points. They were undone by the ‘Who is it?’ round where they weren’t brave enough to gamble with early answers. But it was a very creditable performance, nevertheless.
Bill Hamilton’s and Rachel Butler’s (that’s Tony’s non-refereeing daughter!) knowledge of the number of Premier League games played by Gary Speed left all in awe.
Other refereeing friends who took part, and didn’t disgrace themselves, were Tony Butler, Geoff Lewis, Ian Murrill, Sue Robinson, and Lin Grimsey. Unfortunately, many others were unable to make it due to Xmas celebrations. Hopefully, next year’s event will a little earlier.
The quiz raised some £500 for Asthma UK and thanks go to all who took part and hopefully enjoyed the evening.
Could I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year?
John Burlison
