SO WHAT HAVE WE HERE THEN?

Now then, how about this as a coincidence. In the land of Bergerac and multi- millionaires, surely not a pub/café called The Flag and Whistle! Cheek of them … these islanders of Jersey.

Oh, and where is it situated? Where else but inside the Jersey Football Association’s national stadium in St Helier.

And who’s that promoting its virtues? No, surely not, our own Referees’ Appointments Secretary, Mick Ewen. But then, who better to taste the local island brew!

I accompanied Mick as part of the Management Committee team attending The Division Two select side who were drawn against the Jersey Football Combination in the FA Carlsberg National League System Cup. Unfortunately, their foray into Europe ended there, with the cream of Jersey – many of the players clearly way above Step 7 level – proving too strong and our boys lost 2-0.

Still as Mick’s delight illustrates, the consolation prize was most acceptable!
