SO
WHAT HAVE WE HERE THEN?
Now then, how
about this as a coincidence. In the land of Bergerac and multi-
millionaires, surely not a pub/café called The Flag and Whistle!
Cheek of them … these islanders of Jersey.
Oh, and where is
it situated? Where else but inside the Jersey Football Association’s
national stadium in St Helier.
And who’s that
promoting its virtues? No, surely not, our own Referees’
Appointments Secretary, Mick Ewen. But then, who better to taste the
local island brew!

I accompanied
Mick as part of the Management Committee team attending The Division
Two select side who were drawn against the Jersey Football
Combination in the FA Carlsberg National League System Cup.
Unfortunately, their foray into Europe ended there, with the cream
of Jersey – many of the players clearly way above Step 7 level –
proving too strong and our boys lost 2-0.
Still as Mick’s
delight illustrates, the consolation prize was most acceptable!
