Association Meeting and AGM: 31 August 2017

Webmaster, 9 August 2017

Date: Thursday 31 August 2017

Venue: Hemel Hempstead FC, Vauxhall Road, Hemel Hempstead, HP2 4HW

Kick-off: 7pm for 7.45pm

The season is underway, seems such a short time since May for those of you who were involved in Div2 catch up.

It appears that we are still struggling to appoint 3 officials on the Premier Division, Division 1 & 2 games let alone development games, which is staggering since we have 178 registered Level 5’s, 6’s & 7’s. However a quick analysis of the August appointments shows that approx. 50% of the 178 were not available (i.e. no appointments) and another 20% have given limited availability, hence the problem. Part of the Meeting on the 31stwill focus on how do we improve availability or is it simply part of the pressures of modern life.

Moving on to the main part of the evening, we are going through changes at the top with Mike & Bill after years of unstinting service returning to the back benches.

Hence we need to elect a new chairman and, subject to your approval, we look forward to welcoming Mick (Ewen), as our new chairman. There were no other nominations.

Mick will be addressing the meeting in his customary elegant manner on his vision for the Association and how he sees the Association once again being the envy of all other leagues.

With regard to the rest of the committee, the plan is that Walshee will be Vice Chairman, Morro will take over the stewardship of the Finances, I will remain secretary and the Songman (Brian Wright) will continue to eek the pounds out of your pocket at our meetings, all under the stewardship of Barry Firmin (founder & president). In addition we have a new techie guru, Mario Stetakovic, who is taking over from Iain, where we have plans not only to enhance the content of the web site but also create a Flag and Whistle App (more about the App on the evening).

However we are aware that we need to reach out to all referees on the league, so we are looking to co-opt a number of other referees from all levels to help the core committee fulfil its goals. I am glad to say we have had a very good response but again more about this subject on the night.

The night will wrap up with what we call Bill’s Oscars, where we recognize the sterling performance & commitment of referees last season with numerous awards including the Carl Couzens trophy, in memory of our late secretary, whose life was tragically cut short in his prime.

For all you gannets, food will be provided but no Hazel’s hot dogs this time. However I am sure Mr. Boggins will more than cater for your healthy appetites.

If you can please let me know by return if you can make the meeting that would be great, new or lapsed members are most welcome where Morro will be glad to relieve you of your tenner membership either before the meeting or on the door.

Remember if you are a 3 year member or paid for membership last season, this season’s membership is FREE.

Happy refereeing and look forward to catching up with all the goss on the 31st @ Hemel.
